Committee Releases New Vidalia® Onion Logo

March 8, 2006. Vidalia, GA. The most famous sweet onion-the Vidalia®Onion-has a new logo. The Committee decided it was about time the most recognized brand had a recognizable brand image. "Consumers know the value of a Vidalia®, and they're looking for us by name in stores," says Executive Director Wendy Brannen. " But, for several years now, we've had bits and pieces of old marketing campaigns left floating around the country. This is confusing to customers and people who are looking to find information about our famous sweet onions."

The new logo had to meet several requirements. Says Brannen, "We wanted something that will maintain a sense of tradition - we are a Georgia Grown® agricultural product that's still planted and picked by hand, and we like to share our pride in that. Yet, we also want something that is sharp, eye catching, and that clearly conveys that we, too, can adapt to the modern marketplace. Heidi McIntyre, President of McIntyre Marketing, Inc - the company that helped the VOC develop the new logo-says it accomplishes this balance of modern and traditional by using updated colors and fonts and an appealing image of the Vidalia® Onion itself.

The new logo will appear on all VOC printed materials, press mailings, point of sale items, and trade show displays. Individual growers and handlers will continue using their own company logos and images, which clearly identify their product as Vidalia® Onions in produce stands. The new VOC-created logo, however, will be the universal logo for all Vidalia® Onions.
