Vidalia® Onion Committee Hires Compliance Officer
May 10, 2006. Vidalia, GA.The Vidalia® Onion Committee announces an addition to its internal staff. William Braddy of Vidalia joins the office this growing season in the position of Compliance Officer. Braddy worked for ASCS, Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service, for 14 years as a Field Officer and currently is also self employed as a home improvement contractor. Braddy will spend at least three days a week traveling throughout the 20-county Vidalia® growing region. He will call on the growers and handlers at their businesses to address any compliance questions they may have and to assure they are submitting required reports and paying assessment fees in accordance with the Committee's approved compliance plan. Handlers pay a percentage of the monies received from all onion shipments to the Committee, which then uses the funds for marketing and research.
Braddy joins the Committee's existing staff, Executive Director Wendy Brannen and Executive Assistance Yvonne Clark. Brannen says the decision to hire Braddy is part of the Office's increasing efforts to comply with the Committee's governing document, Marketing Order #955, and to act in accordance with USDA regulations and the Committee's approved compliance plan. "Braddy has experience making calls on farmers and conducting audits," says Brannen, "and his attitude should prove beneficial in getting along with Vidalia's 102 registered growers and handlers while still assuring they are in compliance with the Order and Committee rules."
The Vidalia® Onion Committee was established in 1989 as Federal Marketing Order No. 955. The order authorizes production research, marketing research and development, and marketing promotion programs. The VOC administers the order locally and consists of eight producer members and their alternates and one public member and an alternate.
