Chefs Advisory Board

The best way to keep up with food trends, the sophisticated palates of today's diners, and the needs of the foodservice industry is to go straight to the professionals who create those trends--chefs. So, in 2005, the Vidalia® Onion Committee created a brand new, star-studded Vidalia® Onion Chefs' Advisory Board.

Invited to become founding members were: Jeffrey Buben of Vidalia Restaurant and Bistro Bis in Washington, D.C.; Steven Lewandowski of Tribeca Grill in New York City; Jay Murray of Grill 23 and Bar in Boston; and Michael Tuohy of Woodfire Grill in Atlanta.

To double its foodservice and consumer outreach, the VOC doubled the size of its Chefs Advisory Board in 2006. Among the '06 line-up is Paula Deen, restaurateur, cookbook author and star of Cooking with Paula which airs on the Food Network. Also joining this diverse panel: Jon Ashton, weekly chef on Warner Brothers' national cable morning news program, The Daily Buzz; Brian Stapleton of The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, NC, and Celina Tio of The American Restaurant in Kansas City, MO.

Each chef contributes a recipe using Vidalia Onions. The recipes, ranging from salsas to soufflés, have been professionally photographed for production as oversize postcards. The postcards are then sent to chefs around the country to inspire them to include Vidalia Onions in dishes on their menus. Food editors of consumer publications are invited to publish the recipes and photographs in their magazines and newspapers. The chefs and their recipes are also included in a recipe brochure that is available free to consumers.
