Interactive online contest to highlight sweet onion trivia, final Shrek film

Vidalia, Ga. – What do ogres and onions have in common? Both will be in produce aisles this spring and summer enticing kids and parents to eat more Vidalias & other veggies! The Vidalia® Onion Committee has partnered with DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWA) to promote the original sweet onion in conjunction with the release of Shrek Forever After®, premiering May 21 nationwide in 3D and IMAX and other local theaters.

Beginning April 15, sweet onion and ogre-lovers alike can visit VidaliaOnion.org to search for onions scattered in Shrek’s virtual, enchanted swamp. Contestants will learn Vidalia trivia along the way to entering the contest. The grand prize “Ultimate TV Video Gaming Package” is a 50” HDTV, Wii™ Gaming System and Shrek Forever After™ videogame courtesy of Activision.

“The online Shrek-themed contest is a fun, interactive way to get ogre and onion-lovers of all ages to learn more about our original sweet onion,” said Wendy Brannen, Vidalia® Onion Committee executive director. “We even have ‘SHREKtacular’ kid-friendly Vidalia onion recipes available online that will encourage kids to eat more vegetables and get more hands-on with their parents in the kitchen.”

The chef-created, kid-friendly Vidalia onion recipes with Shrek-related titles available at VidaliaOnion.org and on in-store take-aways include Swamp Onion Soup, Fiona’s Favorite Funyuns and Donkey’s Savory Onion Parfait. Each recipe includes at least one hefty serving of vegetables. Also available on the site is a link to the movie trailer, Shrek-themed coloring pages and a Web toolkit with features like Shrek screensavers, wallpaper and mouse clickers.
