Our growers plant around 12,000 acres of Vidalia onions every fall. In the spring, those acres each yield approximately 16,000 pounds of onions. Vidalias are then shipped out across the U.S. and Canada to meet consumer demand.
They are commonly sold loose by the pound, in 3 lb, 4 lb, and 5 lb pre-packs, and in 10 lb, 20 lb, and 40 lb mesh bags and boxes.
The most popular sizes are premium medium, jumbo (3-4”) and colossal (4” and up).
Shipping runs from mid April to early fall throughout the U.S. and Canada. Many packers supply sweet onions other than Vidalia onions during the off season offering sales year-round. The fresh market can be continued through early fall through Controlled Atmosphere (C.A.) storage.
Most shippers will pack to request and work with your transportation needs.
